AR-15 fair price for a new model

I looked at one of these today and it was pretty darn nice. The guy was asking $1100 for it, which seemed a bit high to me. It did have a stainless steel tip for what it's worth.

So...any thoughts on this? Sorry I didnt write down the name of the manufacturer. I am looking more for general guidelines and advice. Thanks

Do you mean stainless steel barrel? I would prefer chrome-lined mil spec barrels.

The manufacturer can make a substantial difference in the price of the rifle...

Bushmaster, DPMS, Rock River, Colt, Noveske, Sabre Defense, Stag Arms, BMC can vary in price from $850-1500 or more

I would avoid Olympic Arms, American Spirit Arms, or anything that is "custom-built" (or home-built).

New or used?

While we're on the subject SC, what do you think an original Colt AR-15 is worth, with the Colt scope, standard length barrel, and no forward assist? I would say the condition is 95%, circa 1980's I would guess. It actually says "AR-15" on it, not "Sporter Carbine". Also, standard stock, no collapsible butt.

The original Colt SP-1, with original Colt-contract scope? Triangular handguards? I have seen the SP-1 retailing for ~$1500 and the original scopes $300-400 maybe a year or so ago. Not sure what they would bring in this current market.

Yes, it's an sp1, but not with the old triangular handguards, has the round ones. Thank you for your response.
